Dear Community and Business Leader:
On any given night, about 1.5 million veterans of the U.S. military are either homeless or at risk of homelessness. At Wheels4Change, a 501c3 veterans support mission, this is not acceptable to us. And we believe it isn’t acceptable to you.
We’re working hard to change things, by linking vets to needed services, improving their self-esteem through physical fitness and assessing their skills for job training and placement. But we need your help to move forward.
One of the primary focus of our organization is our bicycle giveback program. A bike can become vital transportation and incorporate fitness. Beginning with donated bicycles, no matter the condition, veterans in our program put in hours of work fixing them. These donated bicycles are given to veterans who are willing to complete give back hours to the community. The veterans must put in hours of dedicated work to earn the bikes. Through that work, we are able to assess their capabilities and dedication and direct them to employers with whom we have developed long-standing relationships. This program is not a free ride, so to speak. It’s a hand up, not a hand out.
In order to fully outreach and increase awareness, we created two primary events to support our work. First, in February we hold an in door event to honor those that have made the supreme sacrifice defending our country. Our second event is held In September called ‘Ride for the 23.’ The Wheels4Change bike event was created to educate the community about the twenty-two veterans and one active duty member who take their own lives everyday.
We’ve also created The Wheels4Change Athletic Team that grew out of ultra-cycling but now includes other sports. The team — made up of military veterans, spouses and supporters — participates in everything from marathons to triathlons.
And everywhere our team goes our sponsors go with us — boldly in name and spirit. We are deeply gratefully for the donation of used of bicycles and materials, but our major financial and in-kind support comes from our sponsors, a group we hope will soon include you. You may sponsor in your own name, your corporate name or the name of a military hero you’d like to honor.
Your business or group is bound to benefit from the exposure we offer because our team is seen – and covered by the media — at many events across the country. And, quite simply it’s vital support for our country, our heroes and our community.
Below you will find details on our levels of sponsorship, the history of Wheels4Change, our extensive coverage by the press and our good works among veterans.
In the meantime, we salute your accomplishments and hope you’ll rise to our call.
